JazzUP! presents… Soul Grooves with HORACE PANTER
featuring Nikolaj Torp Larsen and Chris Rand

April JazzUp is a special one. Horace Panter needs no introduction as founder member and bassist of The Specials. After many Top Ten singles and achievements too numerous to mention, Horace still tours with the band, recently completing tours of the U.S, Australia, and Japan, alongside Terry Hall, Lynval Golding and other original members. The Specials influence on British music is immense, and their blend of ska and rocksteady with punk’s energy and attitude is the soundtrack of a generation. Horace’s bass playing is a vital component of that sound and threads through the British music scene to this day. As a bassist, Horace is a master of the rock-solid groove, and JazzUp gives him a chance to stretch out and lay it down on tunes by the likes of The Meters, George Benson and Booker T. Combine that with a blistering lineup of jazz soloists and you have a JazzUp not to be missed… Not one, but two members of The Specials, on keyboards much requested return of

Nikolaj Torp Larsen
A highly successful jazz musician and film score composer, he has toured and recorded with many well-known artists including on Adele’s “Skyfall” which won the Award for Best British Single at the 2013 BRIT Awards. He has contributed to more than 60 albums by artists including James Morrison, Chaka Khan, Pointer Sisters, Gloria Gaynor, Sister Sledge, Grace Jones, Engelbert Humperdinck, Willie Nelson, Amy Winehouse, KT Tunstall, Florence & The Machine, Cee Lo Green, Adele, Mark Ronson, Elton John, Engelbert Humperdinck, Olly Murs, Katie Mehlua, Lana Del Rey and many more. Fresh from a sellout tour of the Australia and Japan with Horace and The Specials, we’re over the moon to have him back with us at JazzUp.

Chris Rand
Chris studied at the Guildhall School of Music and quickly became one of the UK’s top sax session musicians, recording throughout the world with many of UK’s top Jazz and Blues artists. He has performed with the Rolling Stones Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood, George Porter Jr (The Meters), Mick Taylor, Chris Jagger, Elliot Randall (Steely Dan), and Davey Payne (Ian Dury and the Blockheads). Most recently, Chris has been working with British blues band Nine Below Zero, where he made his first appearance last year with the band at Glastonbury Festival. In 2014 Chris formed his own quartet as a vehicle for his own brilliant compositions. January 2016 saw the world wide release of his debut album ‘Gathering’, featuring Derek Nash, Dave Green and Ben Waters.
